Shaw's Landing

Restaurant - Shaw's Landing - East Dover, NS
***
This place came highly recommended... but we can't figure that out.
Quaint, little joint run by some locals. It used to be owned by a french chef who lost his daughter in the Swiss Air Flight crash a few years back.
Serving sizes were good. The food was tasty, but kinda unexpected.
We had the lobster chowder, which seemed to be more of a stew... and the fish and chips were good, but standard.
The bathroom was the best decorated room in the place - mostly because it was wallpapered with comics from Herman and the Far Side.

Back to the Wharf

Restaurant - Stayners Wharf - Halifax
****1/2

This place does not disappoint.
We split calamari to start, and then a dish of lobster linguini. Delicious.
Big chunks of lobster, with about an 8 mussel garnish topped off this wonderful example of East Coast cuisine.
Service, yet again, was impeccable.

East Coast Fish & Chips

Restaurant - The Old Triangle Ale House - Halifax
***
If you're looking for some classic fish and chips, this is the place to go. $10 for a plate of breaded haddock and yummy chips is a deal you can't pass up. We attempted the traditional beers to go along with our meal, and realized that we really weren't beer drinkers. Alexander Keith and Mr. Guiness would have been sorely disappointed in us. But the fish was great!

Halifax Citadel

Attraction - Halifax Citadel - Halifax
***
Highlights of this national historic site included wonderful views of the harbour and town, interesting architecture, costumed reenactments, and daily cannon fires.
Will especially liked the artillery demonstration. The 12-pound cannon (loaded without ball) being fired by history nerds.
The exhibit was interesting but short and similar to every other fort (or Canadian museum) you've ever been in. We missed the gift and coffee shops, but wouldn't pay the $10.90 each to go back and see them.

Little Fish

Restaurant - Little Fish / Five Fishermen - Halifax
**1/2
This restaurant was recommended to us by some friends in Ottawa, and really, we were a little disappointed. If you're looking for seafood in Halifax, there are far better choices.
The appetizer menu was misleading, as the prices implied greater quantities. The presentation was great, the atmosphere was cozy, but the food was hit and miss. Shannon ordered crab crusted haddock, which was rich and well deserving of your appetite. Will's seafood linguini left much to be desired. The sauce was bland, and seafood was scarce.

Seafood by the Wharf

Restaurant - Stayner's Wharf - Halifax
****
By the water in downtown Halifax, we were aimlessly strolling, when we glanced at the menu of the establishment in a glass display case (which is a service we wish was provided at every restaurant). We were drawn by the promise of delicious, fresh seafood.
Catching our eyes were Citrus Seafood Florentine and Seafood Chowder.
Both meals were mouth-watering good.
Staff was friendly and fast, and served us above and beyond the average restaurant. The pub-style restaurant also provided wonderful atmosphere with toe-tapping local artists performing jazz and swing.

Hotel Experience

Hotel - Residence Inn Marriott - Halifax
****
As we entered the hotel, we were greeted by friendly staff who were eager to point out the highlights of Halifax. Hot breakfast was provided every morning and daily evening free snack times. Our room came fully equipped with full kitchenette (including dishes!!). It made the perfect launch pad for our week's adventures.
